Review boards are a contentious issue in the sex industry. Some sex workers find them to be a useful marketing tool whereas others find them to be commodifying and coercive. I must confess that I am within the latter camp.
Although review boards began as information sources, they soon became a forum wherein a segment of clients, usually the prolific posters and/or hobbyists, pressured sex workers to engage in higher risk services or face the fiscal consequences of a potentially negative review. Over time, many sex workers acquiesced to this social pressure. As such, there are many sex workers currently offering sexual services which are not of their free choosing; instead, it is a direct consequence of client pressure.
